Newly Remastered • Following their association with Mercury Records, the Stanley Brothers moved on to Starday Records and then King Records. This excellent 4-CD boxed set contains all of their classic Starday recordings and music from their first six King albums. The albums that appear here include The Stanley Brothers (SLP-106), Sacred Songs From The Hills (SLP-122), The Stanley Brothers (King-615), Hymns And Sacred Songs (King-645), Everybody’s Country Favorites (King-690), For The Good People (King-698), In Person (King-719), and Sing The Songs They Like Best (King-772). Also included are several singles that never made it onto album and a couple of previously unissued titles. This collection catches the Stanley Brothers in a state of transition. The first several albums on the set are pretty much a continuation of the fine hard-core mountain sound that they did so well for Mercury a few years earlier. In 1959, their sound softened a bit with the inclusion of lead guitar, played first by Bill Napier and later by Curley Lambert and George Shuffler. The CD comes with a full-color booklet that details the history of the recordings; many fine period photos are included as well.
