Reb-1740 • Ralph Stanley My All And All

Right from the start of his lengthy career, gospel music has been an important component of Ralph Stanley's music. This continues to the present and was so in 1997 when this CD was released. For years, Ralph has been noted for his haunting vocals; this release has him up front and center and handling most all of the lead vocal chores. He is joined on a number of songs by John Rigsby, a member of the Clinch Mountain Boys who shares Ralph's affinity for the strains of Primitive Baptist singing. The band members on this CD have been with Stanley for a decade or more now but they were relatively recent additions when Ralph embarked on assembling this project. Band members include: Ralph Stanley II on guitar, James Alan Shelton on lead guitar, Steve Sparkman on banjo, John Rigsby on mandolin, James Price on fiddle, and veteran Jack Cooke on bass. Perhaps he was sparked by the youthful enthusiasm of his new band, or quite possibly it was the euphoria of his 50th anniversary as a professional musician... what ever the case, My All And All is great old-time mountain gospel music and will no doubt be remembered as one of Ralph Stanley's better gospel recordings.
