CCRS-7008 • Country Gentlemen • Folk Session Inside |
|
The Country Gentlemen are revered today as one of the top bands in bluegrass. With a nearly 50-year history to their credit, they are among a select group of inductees to the International Bluegrass Music Association's Hall of Honor. In 1963, a classic incarnation of the group that included Charlie Waller on guitar, John Duffey on mandolin, Eddie Adcock on banjo, and Tom Gray on bass recorded their first major label release. It was an album that appeared on the Mercury label called Folk Session Inside. All involved agreed that it was perhaps the best recording that this group made together. Session engineer Pete Kuykendall noted, "They were right at the top of their form at the time." Virtually all of the Country Gentlemen's early recordings have been reissued, with this being the last significant piece of their work to have escaped reissue, till now. The original album remained in print for only a short period of time and the material contained on it is some of the group's rarest. Significantly, all 12 of the original songs, plus a previously unissued bonus track, are available once again, for the first time in 40 years. |
