This Minnesota-based group is, as their name implies, headed by Dick Kimmel. As a multi-instrumentalist, vocalist, writer, teacher, and goodwill ambassador, Kimmel’s professional involvement in bluegrass spans nearly 30 years. He first recorded for Copper Creek in 1992 with a solo project called Wild Turkey Rag. His sixth, and most recent, recording for the label is a full band project and is significant in that it is the group’s first all-gospel recording. It features a variety of original and traditional bluegrass gospel recordings. Among the newly composed tunes are “It’s Never Too Late To Let Jesus In” (Dick Kimmel), “The Center City Mission” (Paul Horrisberger), and “Three Jewels in the Master’s Crown” (Tim O’Connor & Dick Kimmel). Appearing on the project is long-time friend Becky Buller, currently the ace fiddler with Valerie Smith & Liberty Pike. The band showcased material from the project recently at a number of well-received Minnesota events. |
