CC-0155 • Josh Williams • Come To That River |
Josh Williams & High Gear are justifiably proud of Come To That River, their second release on Copper Creek. Hailing from western Kentucky, Josh debuted his superb vocals and fine banjo picking with the well-received recording of bluegrass tunes on The Old Town Of Home (CCCD-0130). In the years since then, he has spent his time developing his style, penning original material, and collecting the gospel tunes that appear on this project. Come To That River is full of the inspired performances that gospel bluegrass is famous for. Josh wrote the title track with preacher/friend Benny Morton and Josh shines singing lead. Josh’s songwriting skills are also showcased on the song “No Solomon No,” re-telling the Old Testament love story. Featured along with the newer selections are the perennial gospel favorites “I’m Using My Bible As A Road Map,” “Pass Me Not,” and the traditional gospel bluegrass tune “The Old Crossroads,” written by the great Bill Monroe. Lending a hand to Josh Williams and rounding out the already formidable talents of High Gear members [Tim Harmon (mandolin, vocals), David Oliver (rhythm guitar), and Ron Barnett (bass, vocals)] is the talented fiddle player, Barbara Lamb. Her joyful bowing joins Josh on “Build My Mansion (Next Door To Jesus).” Also appearing with Josh Williams is Don Rigsby whose brilliant tenor graces more than half the songs on this album. |
