CC-0147 • Randall Hylton True Stories, Tall Tales, And Lies

In a music field teeming with vibrant writers and performers, Nashville-based Randall Hylton stood tall among the best on both counts. His career as a bluegrass songwriter and performer spanned over two decades and during this time he earned critical acclaim and the respect of many legendary performers. A short list of those who have included Randall Hylton material in their repertoire includes Ralph Stanley, Bluegrass Cardinals, Country Gentlemen, Doyle Lawson, the Lewis Family, Lost and Found, and the Virginia Squires. As a performer, Randall had the distinction of being one of the few entertainers to successfully deliver a solo act in a bluegrass setting.

Randall’s second recording for Copper Creek is a collection of songs that were his personal favorites – some of which... “tell the truth, some [of which] take liberties with the truth, while others bypass the truth all together.” This entertaining collection of musical yarns is appropriately entitled True Stories, Tall Tales, And Lies. As is typical with the music of Randall Hylton, his songs evoke images that are at times rustic and nostalgic and at other times completely comical. His wit is displayed to the fullest on numbers such as “Cecil and The Cement Truck,” “One Man Band,” and “Deacon Eddie Wilson” which uses a light-hearted tone to deliver a serious message. Several songs contained on True Stories... were previously recorded by other notables in the bluegrass industry. These include “Lee Berry Rye” (Bluegrass Cardinals) and “Sawmill Road” (Lost and Found).
